I
had planned a trip to Jaisalmer in the month of march for 3 days. I
booked the flight from Ahmedabad to Jaisalmer on Friday morning through
True jet – a new Airline. Flights are very cheap. I booked the flight
@1500 for one way. I started the journey from Vadodara, I booked the cab
from Vadodara to Ahmedabad Airport. We reach at Ahmedabad airport and
boarded the flight @10:30am and reach the Jaisalmer Airport at 12:30pm.
You will see thousands of wind mills from plane and it looks amazing.
After reaching the Jaisalmer airport, it’s better to call a taxi from
Jaisalmer city using internet which is cheaper than prepaid taxi. It
will take around Rs. 500 to reach to Jaisalmer City and to your
respective hotel. I have booked a decent hotel in Jaisalmer city since I
had to just spend the night there. I booked the Hotel Marina Mahal,
hotel is simple, but rooms are big & nice. Food is also very nice
there. After reaching the Hotel, we booked the taxi for all 3 days @5300
which includes Jaisalmer city , sand dunes , Longewala post . 1st visit
we did to Bada Bagh. Entry
Bada Baghcharge
is 100 per person and camera charge is 100/-. Bada Bagh is place where
the cremations of Royal family members were done. You will see various
chhatris. Be ensured to hire a guide to get more details of Bada Bagh.
After spending around 1 hour at Bada Bagh we proceeded to Gadi sagar
lake which is artificial lake made by the Royal family. You can spend
the time listening to the folk music sung by the local people. You can
visit the Shiva temple located at Gadisagar lake. After that we went to
kaku café from where you can see the Jaisalmer fort and sunset, have a
beer and enjoy the evening. After the sunset we came back to hotel and
had the dinner on time since the next day was going to be very
adventurous and little bit hectic.
Day 2
So,
next day we had some authentic Rajasthani breakfast Dal ki kachori and
Mirch bada in Jaisalmer city along with the refreshing masala chass to
kick start our day, than we visited the main fort of Jaisalmer, which is
the is believed to be one of the very few (perhaps

only) “living forts” in the world, as nearly one fourth of the old
city’s population still resides within the Fort. The Fort is equally
beautiful from inside as it looked from outside. Entry Charge per person

the main palace of Raja Rajput Rawal Jaisal, inside the palace we saw
the royal rooms of raja, there innovative weapons that they used in
wars. We also saw the Throne of king where enthronement of every new
king is still done, we saw rooms that belonged to different queens of
King, there leisure places, furniture of that time.
After
that we did some street shopping & than we went to The Patwa Haveli.
The Patwa Ki haveli itself speaks of amazing architect of that time
& tremendous hard work of the labor. Entry Charge per person 100/-.

The haveli
has that jaw dropping carving all done in stone with all minute
detailing. From inside it had all the luxury that added to its royalty.

there was
THE DESERT
Endless sand Dunesthe modern equipment that were used long ago like fridge, huge cooling fans, sewing machine gifted from Britishers, Belgium glass used in furniture, even the games like Ludo which they called chopat it just made me feel how smart people were at that time & how things have now changed & developed.So, after completing all royal part of Jaisalmer it was now time for us to visit the real Jaisalmer the desert safari in Sam sand dunes, which was 1 hour from city. We also visited Jain temple on the way to desert. We reached Prince desert Camp (A nice camp Near Sand dunes and at distance from a crowded place) where we were having pre-booking done @ 3000 per couple inclusive of breakfast & dinner & camel ride, we were welcomed & our tents were nice & clean having good washrooms. In the evening after having tea we were started our most awaited camel safari & headed towards the sand dunes. The sand dunes looked amazing all golden shining in the sunlight.it was the so relaxing to lie in sand, then we had jeep safari & did sand bashing which was all thrill & fun. We than bid goodbye

The
day ended with Rajasthani folk music dance presented by the locals at
prince desert camp along with snacks & cocktail followed by the
tasty traditional Rajasthani food dal batti & churma, what else you
need to complete a good day, sleeping under the sky gazing at stars
& feeling the complete isolation from the world.
DAY3
After
having a sound sleep in the open desert, we started the journey towards
Longewala post where war of 1971 fought which was at a distance of 125
Km. On our way first we went to Tanot Temple. All the army officers
before joining the post first visit this temple & take blessing.
It
is believed that During the 1971 war Pakistan attacked the place with
bombs, but the bombs did not explode, we even saw the fused bombs kept
in the temple.
Than we went to see the battle site
Longewala post for which we required our IDs. We saw the documentary
movie on the 1971 war there. Also, we saw the Pakistani tankers that
crossed Indian border to attack & were captured.
Camel safari
Must doOne can really feel the struggle of Indian army, there bravery & the sacrifice they do to protect us and our nation.
Than we enjoyed some unending desert landscape & windmills that were spread across the desert.
We
reached back Jaisalmer after having lunch at Ramgargh. We did some
souvenir shopping & reached our bus stop to head back to Baroda.
Jaisalmer
is amazingly beautiful & welcoming town which offers you a
historical glimpse along with beautiful sight seeing. The sand dunes
made me feel like the time had gone still. One must certainly take their
time out from our daily running routine & give oneself a relaxing
treat by going to this small isolated golden land that has hundreds of
stories to tell, welcoming people, good food & lots of peace.
